Roger Stone thinks he’s Abby Hoffman and that Cleveland in 2016 is Chicago in 1968.

Queue up the music to set the ambiance and enjoy the read.

Yesterday, Donald Trump henchman sent out a bunch of tweets calling for protests if the nomination is “stolen” from Donald Trump.

In case you missed it, over the past couple of weeks we’ve discovered that in Trump-speak “stolen” means “I don’t have enough votes to win the nomination but I am so awesome I deserve it anyway.” The “tech savviness” of this idea is demonstrated by the fact that Stone doesn’t use a hashtag (#DaysOfRage) but a Twitter address (@DaysOfRage) that belongs to some hapless mope named “Austin” whose timeline is about to get more interesting.

Roger Stone, the longtime Republican political operative and current ally of Donald Trump, says he’s trying to organize protests at the Republican convention in Cleveland this summer to disrupt any effort by the party to “steal” the nomination from the frontrunner.

Stone tweeted several times on Friday evening about his plans, announcing a “Stop the Steal March on Cleveland” and calling on supporters to get to Cleveland for the convention in July.

Stone told BuzzFeed News over email that he is planning “#DaysofRage,” a seeming reference to the Weatherman-organized Days of Rage protests that took place in Chicago in 1969. Asked to elaborate, Stone said he was talking about “rally-protests -at delegate hotels street theater.”

…But Stone still supports Trump and acknowledges talking to him even though he no longer works for him. “We just have a rhythm,” Stone told GQ this week.

In the same GQ interview, Stone hinted at unrest at the convention, saying “I think there’d be extreme anger by the Trump supporters. I don’t know that it would boil over into violence. Trump is certainly not advocating violence.”

What Stone is trying to do here, undoubtedly at the behest of Donald Trump in just the same way that he served as a cutout in pushing the bogus Ted-Cruz-sex-scandal story to National Enquirer, is blackmail the RNC into rule changes that will increase Trump’s odds of winning the GOP nomination. He knows that a contested convention is going to provide more than ample opportunity for negative press coverage. By threatening riots, demonstrations, violence and the general assholery that the most virulent Trump supporters have shown capacity for, Stone is trying to stop the rush of delegates away from Trump on the second ballot.

It isn’t going to work. First, there has not been a single indication that the Trump campaign can organize a two-car funeral. Rather, it is rife with stupidity and incompetence that lets easy victories slide from its grasp and won victories slip away. If an army of Trump supporters marched on Cleveland I’d fully expect a reenactment of the Children’s Crusade. Secondly, the GOP is beginning to realize that Trump is a malignant force that needs to be vanquished. His supporters will have to choose sides and at some point most of them, who I contend are solid citizens, are going to recognize that Trump is simply a charlatan and they will move away from him.
