The Pledge criticized the Obama administration, stating that "An arrogant and out-of-touch government of self-appointed elites makes decisions, issues mandates, and enacts laws without accepting or requesting the input of the many".
It contained a requirement that Congress post all bills online three days before a vote. The latest budget proposal and compromise between Boehner and Obama violates that pledge. The pledge also promised to rein in spending and "Roll back government spending to 2008 levels."
Under Boehner our national debt has increased by $4.5 Trillion and Congress will raise the debt ceiling by another $1 Trillion with the new budget.
As of October 2025 none of the items in the pledge have been enacted into law.
There are lies and there are damned lies. The Pledge has been a damned lie!
