Standard operating procedure in Washington, when confronted with a political crisis – or even several of them – is to change the subject, then leave town and raise some money. Lots of it.
So, earlier this week, President Obama went out and made a pitch for laptops and high speed internet in the classroom to remedy the nation's educational ills. Al Gore wore that one out in the last century.
Today, it is off to California where, as Joseph Serna and Jean Merl report in the Los Angeles Times:
In two separate events Friday, President Obama and Bill Clintonare expected to make appearances ... diverting traffic, closing roads and bringing with them lots of serious-looking people with sunglasses who speak into their wrists.
Obama will be attending a late-morning, early afternoon fundraiser at the Santa Monica home of Hollywood executive Peter Chernin.
Meanwhile, according to one poll:
Only 33 percent of voters say ... they generally trust the government ...
