Conservative Groups Blast Boehner for Backing Farm Bill

Conservative Groups Blast Boehner for Backing Farm Bill

on Thu, 13 Jun 2013

Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) pledged his support Wednesday for the House version of the $940 billion farm bill, roughly 80% of which will go to fund food stamps over the next ten years.

"Doing nothing means we get no changes in the nutritions programs, and as a result, I'm going to vote for a farm bill to make sure that the good work of the Agriculture Committee...gets to a conference," said Boehner.

Conservative groups like Heritage Action blasted Boehner for getting behind a bill they see as larded with excessive spending.

“Republicans retained control of the House to serve as a check on President Obama’s disastrous policies. Advancing a nearly one trillion dollar food stamp and farm bill ignores that mandate. Now is not the time to be locking in the President’s failed stimulus policies," saidHeritage Action.

The Club for Growth also opposes the bill.

On Monday, the Senate passed its version of the farm bill.
