Obama on IRS Revelations

President Barack Obama said Monday that he agreed people are “properly concerned” about the “outrageous” allegations that the IRS targeted conservative political groups for extra scrutiny, and promised those responsible would be “held accountable.”

“You don’t want the IRS ever being perceived to be biased and anything less than neutral in terms of how they operate,” Obama said at the White House. “I’ve got no patience with it, I will not tolerate it and we will make sure we find out exactly what happened on this.”

Asked about recent revelations on Benghazi, Obama said that while he continued to take responsibility for not doing more to prevent the deaths of four Americans in the September 2012 consulate attack, the push for further investigations has purely “political motivations.”

Obama said the focus should be on preventing future attacks and on the victims.

“We dishonor them when we turn things like this into a political circus,” Obama said. “What happened was tragic, it was carried out by extremists inside Libya, we are out there trying to hunt them down so it doesn't happen again.”
