Urban warfare training rattles Florida town

Urban warfare training rattles Florida town

A recent military street exercise in Broward County, Fla., set some residents on edge.

Police agencies in Broward County, Florida, partnered with more than 200 members of the U.S. military to conduct Special Operations Forces training in the streets and buildings of several undisclosed locations – a situation that left some rather unsettled.

The aim of the training was to prepare the participants for sudden overseas combat missions, the Sun-Sentinel reported. The exercise involved members of the Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy.

Local police, meanwhile, were confined mostly to helping with traffic diversions and keeping away curious members of the public.

But the training for the unaware can prove alarming.

A clip of one of the exercises showed troops converging on some individuals – who are posing as prisoners – and marching them toward an internment building. Blackhawk helicopters, meanwhile, swarmed overhead.

The drills were held in the same county in 2014.

But some see an ulterior motive with the exercises – that the government is trying to acclimate Americans to the idea of martial law. One similar drill for military members and police in nine different states raised the ire of many after it was revealed Texas and Utah, in exercise-related documents, had been labeled “hostile” territories for training purposes, Infowars reported.
