The House passed legislation that would revoke President Barack Obama's executive actions shielding undocumented immigrants from deportations - the GOP's opening salvo in the fight over funding the Department of Homeland Security beyond Feb. 27.
The underlying DHS funding bill passed the chamber 236-191. The House also voted on a series of amendments meant to roll back Obama's executive actions on immigration, including a controversial measure by Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) that would kill the 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. That amendment passed narrowly, 218-209.
The overall package is highly unlikely to get the 60 votes needed to advance in the GOP-controlled Senate, and the Obama administration has threatened to veto the changes to the president's immigration policy.
