While House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) said that President Trump's executive order to suspend all Syrian refugees from the U.S. has established "a safer day for America," Democrats are not so sure. Several liberal members of Congress have released breathless statements condemning the president's action.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) was so incensed, he posted a video response.
President Trump’s fundamentally un-American executive order today stands in painful contrast to our ideals: pic.twitter.com/ynDLwRgqrW

“The chances of being struck by lightning TWICE is 1 in 9 million," Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) said on Friday. "The chances of being killed by a refugee committing a terrorist act is 1 in 3.6 billion. These facts lead me to conclude that Trump's action is not based on national security, it is based on bigotry. Lady Liberty is crying."
Senate Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi also saw tears in the Statue of Liberty's eyes.
This Administration has mistaken cruelty for strength & prejudice for strategy. This is not who we are as a country. https://t.co/ZVGEG3ydtWpic.twitter.com/0B2k65SAv8

Trump has hinted for months that he planned to strengthen our refugee vetting process and perhaps put a ban on refugees coming from countries known for terror. Democrats had plenty of warning.
