We Should Ban Muslims On Terrorist Watch Lists From Praying Or Attending Mosques

The time has come to get really serious about defeating terrorism in this country. Our government at all levels, our citizenry and law enforcement truly need to recognize the threat of terrorism exists within our country. Within our states. Within our hometowns.

People who appear on terrorist watch lists are not allowed to fly on a plane. As for Muslims on a terrorist watch list, if they can’t fly on an airplane, why on earth would we allow them to continue to pray and attend mosques? These are dangerous people and by continuing to allow them to pray and attend mosques, we allow their radicalization to grow and it will only be a matter of time before we’re watching news of another attack on our televisions and on the internet.

Enough talking about being tough on terrorism. Actually be tough on terrorism and stop making it easy as possible for terrorists to continue to be radicalized.

In fact, the steps taken should go beyond praying and attending mosques. If a Muslim appears on a terrorist watch list, law enforcement should have every right to search the homes of those on watch lists any time they choose for any reason and without a warrant. Make it harder for terrorists to plot attacks, store weapons and explosives. Otherwise, despite extraordinary efforts across our government, by local law enforcement, by our intelligence agencies, by our military — despite all the sacrifices that folks make, these kinds of events are going to keep on happening. We have to make it harder for people who want to kill Americans to use the places they live in order to plot attacks. It must stop.

In addition, we have no idea what these suspected terrorists are doing when when they’re not praying to Allah or hanging out at the local mosque sneering about infidels. Chances are, they are on the internet or talking to people about their beliefs. Shouldn’t we take steps to prevent this if they are on terrorist watch lists? Shut down their internet access. Don’t allow them to write letters or to appear on radio shows or anything that will allow them to spread their message of hate. People with possible ties to terrorism, who are not allowed on a plane, should not be allowed to engage to use mediums to speak to others. It’s dangerous.

People may not agree with this, but I think we should be able to agree on a few essential things:

• If the FBI is watching you for a suspected terrorist link, you shouldn’t be able to just go and attend a mosque or meet with other Muslims with no questions asked.
• And you shouldn’t be able to exploit loopholes and evade home internet bans by going to a Starbucks or Barnes and Noble to get internet access.
• And yes, if you’re too dangerous to get on a plane, you are too worship freely, live freely without the threat of search and seizure or speak freely.

Some of you may be thinking, “Caruso has lost it.” Not really. The ideas I laid out are not my ideas. Don’t get upset with me. I didn’t think of them.

They are the ideas of President Barack Obama. They are the ideas of the presumptive Democrat nominee for President, Hillary Clinton. They are the ideas of many Democrats who are constantly warning us of the dangers of people who are on terrorist watch lists.

Owning a firearm in this country is a constitutionally protected, individual right. The constitution says it is and the Supreme Court affirmed that it is.

But President Obama and Hillary Clinton have no problem turning the constitution on its head in order to advance their anti-second amendment agenda. If the government can strip your second (and fifth) amendment rights by denying a person on a terrorist watch list a gun, then they can certainly do the same for any other constitutional right.

The words above may seem familiar because they are. I took excerpts from President Obama’s comments on the terrorist attack in Orlando as well as Hillary Clinton’s and substituted other constitutional protections where they were bloviating about guns.

The ideas seem absurd don’t they? They are. I would never agree to step on somebody’s constitutional rights even if they appear on a terrorist watch list. The ideas come across even more absurd when one considers the terrorist watch list has ridiculously high error rates. Thirty-five percent according to the FBI inspector general. 

Ironically, President Obama made it easier to appear on a terrorist watch lists.

Look, you don’t like guns? Fine. You don’t want people like Omar Mateen getting his hands on guns, legally? Fine. But do not go down the road where we toss the constitution out the window just because it will make Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, other Democrats and various liberals feel better.

My rights don’t end where your feelings start.
