The 69th Primetime Emmy Awards got political right from the opening numberSunday nightwith mentions of President Donald Trump, the Russia investigation and global warming, just to name a few.

“So don’t you worry about global warming, or the Middle East, the world is a little better on TV,” host Stephen Colbert sang as he danced around.

“When the world is so scary you close your door and hide, open up and let ‘Archer’ slip inside,” he added. “‘Stranger Things’ is much less strange than our reality. Everything is better on TV.”

At one point he slips into a set from HBO’s “Veep” and said, “I’d like to vote for Selena Myers.”

The actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus then utters, “Imagine if your president was not beloved by Nazis.”

“‘The Americans’ has hotter spies, than the Russia inquiry,” Colbert added, as a shot of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump shaking hands flashing across the screen. “Even treason’s better on TV.”

“Look on the bright side handmaids [‘The Handmaid’s Tale’] at least your healthcare is free,” he continued. “The dark futures always brighter on TV.”

“So, friends I know that the world may be the worst we’ve ever seen, but it’s never been better on your TV screen.”
