Power Line - Friday September 9, 2016
by Scott Johnson
Over the holiday weekend Byron York took a careful look at the file documents released this past Friday in the FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton and her private email server (the investigation formerly known as a li’l old “security review”). Byron carefully explored the documents released with a view to the question whether Team Clinton destroyed evidence under subpoena.
Today the New York Times reports that the Department of Justice granted immunity to the Platte River Networks employee — Paul Combetta — who used BleachBit to destroy the Clinton emails sought by Congress in March 2015. The Times simply relays the statement of Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon: “As the F.B.I.’s report notes, neither Hillary Clinton nor her attorneys had knowledge of the Platte River Network employee’s actions. It appears he acted on his own and against guidance given by both Clinton’s and Platte River’s attorneys to retain all data in compliance with a congressional preservation request.”
The Times doesn’t even skim the surface of the question here. Compare Fallon’s statement with Byron’s article and note this. Last year investigative reporter Todd Shepherd reported on an invoicesuggesting Combetta’s legal expenses were defrayed by the Clintons as late as September 2015.
