Rasmussen: Majority Want Spending Cuts in Debt Ceiling Hike

According to a Rasmussen poll administered Monday and Tuesday, 57% of those polled felt that the best way to deal with the debt ceiling would be to raise it only if the raise were accompanied by spending cuts.
There was no gender gap; 57% of males and 58% of females agreed with that sentiment. There was a political gap, though; 67% of GOP respondents felt cuts should be taken while only 47% of Democrats agreed.
However, only 23% of respondents felt that the debt ceiling should be raised without any spending cuts.
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed a “clean” bill to raise the federal debt ceiling which did not include any spending cuts.
The public apparently feels that Barack Obama and Congress are highly unlikely to add any long-term spending cuts so that raising the debt limit will not become a continuing need; 71% of those polled said it was not likely.
