Perry: 'Is a Conservative in New Jersey a Conservative in the Rest of the Country?'
on Sun, 10 Nov 2013
Appearing on ABC’s This Week, Texas Governor Rick Perry, widely considered a potential 2016 presidential candidate, said that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie would have to undergo a rigorous ideological examination on his conservatism.
“He was a successful governor in New Jersey,” Perry said. “Now, does that transcend to the country? We’ll see in later years and months to come…Is a conservative in New Jersey a conservative in the rest of the country? We’ll have that discussion at the appropriate time.”
Perry made clear that he is intending to run again in 2016, telling Jeff Zeleny, “Second chances are what Americans have always been about.” Perry also had kind words for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), whose 21-hour quasi-filibuster over Obamacare captured the attention of the nation. “I certainly enjoyed the 21 hours of him standing up and pointing out the foibles and problems of Obamacare,” Perry smiled.
