Oh My: MSNBC Chris Matthews: Donald Trump's Inaugural Address Had A 'Hitlerian Background'

Well, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is back to playing his usual game: making Hitler comparisons. President Donald J. Trump has taken the oath of office, former President Obama (so nice to write that) is out, and his inaugural address pretty much rehashed the reasons why this man won the presidency.

He spoke about how working class Americans are no longer forgotten. How this was the American people’s moment, and that the America people are unstoppable when unified. It doesn’t matter if we’re black, brown, or white because we're all patriots whose blood is the same color. He spoke about how the wealth of the middle class has been stripped from them and redistributed across the world to our detriment. He spoke about taking on radical Islamic terrorism and putting America first. 

The core message of the speech: I will work hard for you.

Apparently, the America first aspect of the address didn’t sit well with Chris Matthews, who felt it was “Hitlerian.”

Via Real Clear Politics [emphasis mine]:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: The relief on this guy's shoulders, until a few moments ago he was trying to think what is Kim Jong-un up to today.

'Is he crazy enough try something? To drop a bomb in the middle of the Pacific? Something I have to react to.'

And that would be -- but I'm thinking, when [President Trump] said today, America first, it was not just the racial, I mean I shouldn't say racial, the Hitlerian background to it, but it was the message I kept thinking. What does [U.K. Prime Minister] Theresa May think of this when she picks up the papers? What did he just say? He said America first. What happened to special relationship? 

If you're Putin you're probably pounding the table, 'That's what I've been saying! Russia first! Russia First!' This whole bullying message to him.

And I wonder, are people around the world we're watching closely in those PDBs (Presidential Daily Briefings), and he got one this morning, what will be the reaction today? Will somebody do something they weren't going to do yesterday?

So, having a president who is proud of his country, and proud of the American people, is “Hitlerian”? Are displays of patriotism now “Hitlerian”? If you thought Matthews’ Tea Party=Hitler comparisons were bad, we can expect them to be on steroids with Trump for the next four years. It’s absurd, but that’s MSNBC. Brace yourselves.
