Editorial: Obama's self adulation

Well, President Obama is certainly determined to exit in a blaze of controversy.

First he savages longtime American ally Israel, then he manages to diss not only the president elect but throw fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton under the bus all at the same time.

In an interview with his own former adviser David Axelrod, Obama insisted he could have won a third term as president if only the Constitution - which he found so many ways to ignore while in office - didn't forbid it.

The secret sauce would have been his ever-so progressive vision for the nation.

"I am confident in this vision because I'm confident that if I - if I had run again and articulated it - I think I could've mobilized a majority of the American people to rally behind it," the president said.

Of course he did have eight years to fumble around trying to implement that vision. The result? Well, a health care system in shambles and increasingly unaffordable, companies that saw their best option in moving overseas, a "clean energy" industry that milked the taxpayers for little if any return. And that's only the domestic "vision."

Obama's foreign policy "vision" has cost hundreds of thousands of Syrians their lives, done nothing to prevent the spread of terror around the globe and led Russia's Vladimir Putin to believe he could bully his way to a new imperial empire.

What Obama has, of course, never lacked during his years in politics is a sense of self-importance.

President-elect Donald Trump fired back with a tweet - of course he did - saying "NO WAY."

But the implications for Clinton were also clear.

"There are a lot of folks in places like West Virginia or Kentucky who didn't vote for Hillary, didn't vote for me, but are being helped by this [Obamacare]," he said. "The problem is, is that we're not there on the ground communicating not only the dry policy aspects of this, but that we care about these communities, that we're bleeding for these communities."

Yep, the caring, "bleeding" for you thing just wasn't Hillary Clinton. But how unkind of Obama to begin his own victory lap by reminding the nation and his party of that.
