Jerry Falwell, Jr Makes Insane Comparison Between Trump and Churchill

Full disclosure: I received my Psychology degree from Liberty University. In the school’s defense, the professors are excellent and reasonably sane. The course work is thorough, and I would recommend the school to others looking for a Christian environment to earn their undergraduate or graduate degree.

All that being said, the school’s president is off his nut!

Jerry Falwell, Jr. (not a pastor) has shamed his father’s name and legacy, once again, by going for the money and heaping unrealistic and undeserved praise on Donald Trump.

In an op-ed for the Washington Post on Friday, Falwell compared Trump to Winston Churchill.

“Thank God,” Falwell wrote, “we now have the opportunity to elect a strong leader, one who is not afraid to call the enemy by its name and to take the battle to that enemy if necessary,” later suggesting that doubling down on the policies Democrats espouse would be “the definition of insanity.”

Falwell went on to describe Trump — with his “kindness, generosity and bold leadership qualities” — as a man who resembles Winston Churchill, who succeeded Chamberlain as prime minister after Hitler reneged on the peace agreement. Churchill went on to be known as the “British bulldog.”

“As Churchill did, Trump possesses the resolve to put his country first and to never give up in a world that is increasingly hostile to our values,” Falwell wrote, calling on all Americans to unite behind the “blue-collar billionaire” and his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

The idea that Trump is a “blue-collar billionaire” is ridiculous enough. When has Trump ever done a hard day’s work or shown himself to be anything other than a Manhattan elitist and crony to corruption?

Trump did not work himself up from the hard scrabble world of construction, as some of his cult followers believe.

No… seriously. There are some who believe he was a lowly, common construction worker who used his savvy to go from the construction site to the boardroom, rather than a trust fund baby, born into privilege.

Falwell, however, has taken it to a new level of psychosis. Trump can be compared to many historical figures. Other than they both are male, I wouldn’t compare him to Churchill in any way.

For starters, Churchill was a statesman. He was also a writer, a historian, and served as an officer in the British army. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature. He had served many positions in government through the years, as well. Of those positions, he was Prime Minister of the UK from 1940 to 1945, and again from 1951 to 1955.

In other words, he was experienced and well-studied in the events of the day. He took his position seriously. He wasn’t some loudmouthed, unserious reality TV clown who decided to randomly jump into the position of Prime Minister as a way to generate publicity.

Falwell, in his mindless worship piece urged those who are still resistant to the Trump cult atmosphere to not focus on Trump’s idiocy, but on Clinton’s corruption.

That’s ok. We can do both.

In the closing of his descent into madness, Falwell remarked:

“Remember when Iran held American hostages for 444 days, only to release them the day Ronald Reagan took office?” Falwell wrote. “Expect those kinds of results under Donald Trump’s leadership.”

Yeah. About that.

The release of those hostages happened the day Reagan took office, largely as a middle finger to Jimmy Carter, who the Iranians viewed with contempt by the end of his term.

Trump would be viewed as a Carter, not a Reagan, and certainly not a Churchill. What’s more, what does it say about the nation who would elect someone not known for his intellect, but known for his excess and reality TV?

Not much.

It may be time for Falwell to take a break. His drooling worship of Trump is not only hurting the image of my alma mater, but also the legacy of the man whose name he carries.
