TheSenate Must Change the 60 Vote Rule

Senate Democrats have blocked consideration of a Republican bill to curb the flow of Syrian and Iraqi refugees into the United States, likely killing it.

The 55-43 vote largely split down party lines and fell short of the 60 votes needed for the bill to advance. The refugee bill had passed the House with broad bipartisan support in November. President Obama said he would veto the bill if it made it to his desk.

McConnell must invoke the "nuclear option" so that only a majority vote can move a bill forward.
