Obama hails climate deal to save humanity from emissions, fires up Air Force One to head to Hawaii

**Written by Doug Powers

It's Sunday, which means an open thread for whatever you'd like to discuss.

As for the starter topics, I'll focus on the COP21 agreement that was reached yesterday in Paris. What do you do when you can't contain actual threats? Invent nonexistent ones and then pat yourselves on the back for bravely leading the world to victory:

So, because Obama and Kerry believe terrorism spawns from climate change, we can soon expect acts of terror to diminish over time now that these geniuses have solved the "climate crisis," right?

The attempts to fashion themselves into a bunch of environmental Neil Armstrongs is pretty nauseating:

Naturally, President Obama reminded the world that whatever was accomplished couldn't have happened without the leadership of... President Obama:

The president's ego, not unlike ISIS, isn't contained.

Speaking of "American leadership"...

The wind-up:

And the pitch:

President Barack Obama and his family are scheduled to fly to Hawaii late next week for their annual Christmas vacation in the islands.

Nothing says "I'm serious about this grave threat to humanity from emissions" like jumping on a 747 and burning tens of thousands of gallons of jet fuel.

Also, by "US will drastically cut emissions," Obama of course wasn't talking about him or any of his eco-hypocrite friends. The rest of us will see our energy bills necessarily skyrocket.

In Paris, conference participants agreed to create the most expensive thermostat in history, except this one won't really do anything except increase the flow of money to climate hucksters and their cronies:

The accord achieved one major goal. It limits average global warming to 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial temperatures and strives for a limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) if possible.

Imagine the level of conceit and arrogance combined with dangerous levels of self-delusion required to polish off a dinner at L'ambroisie and then "agree" on what temperature to keep planet. Then again, John Kerry thinks that kind of skepticism is uneducated and insane.

COP21 quote of the week comes from a World Resources Institute representative describing what the deal will accomplish:

Pascal Canfin, special advisor for climate, WRI: “That’s a great leap forward that needs to be confirmed in tomorrow’s final agreement. We must remain vigilant to ensure commitments are reviewed as early as possible so we don’t get locked into a 3°C pathway”

Ain't no Mao-ntain high enough! If you want to win the free world's confidence, keep calling it a "great leap forward."

There's no energy source that can replace fossil fuels on the kind of broad scale required to keep economies operating, but who cares?

Pixie dust... the power source of the future!

But at least we can count on a responsible and skeptical media to report on the COP21 agreement with complete objectivity:

I think they reacted the same way when Obama got elected.

Have a good Sunday all!
