New Wave Of Terror Hits Israel On Christmas Eve
“Silent Night Silent night, holy night. All is calm, all is bright,” are the opening words of a famous Chrismas carol that talks of the birth of Jesus in Israel two thousand years ago.
But while many in Israel prepare for the holiday that commemorates this event, few things are silent, calm and bright in the Holy Land.
To the contrary, the last two days have seen a sharp uptick in Palestinian Arab terrorist activity against Israeli targets in a terror war that has claimed the lives of more than 150 people thus far.
On Wednesday, two Israeli Jews were killed in a knife attack near the Jaffa Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem. The two were critically wounded in the attack but died later yesterday evening in a hospital in Jerusalem. One of the victims was shot dead by Israeli border police officers who aimed to kill the terrorist who stabbed the man. The other man was pronounced dead after undergoing emergency surgery that aimed to stop excessive bleeding from multiple stabbing wounds in his upper torso.
The attack was carried out by two Palestinian Arabs from the Qalandiya refugee camp near Ramallah. The two, Anan Hamad, 20, and Issa Asaf, 21 were convicted terrorists who were involved in violent attacks against Israeli targets since 2010. They were both shot dead by Israeli security forces.
The attack took place in a crowded area just outside the Armenian quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem where thousands of Christian pilgrims are preparing for Christmas celebrations.
On Thursday, Palestinian Arab terrorists continued to attack Israeli civilian targets and IDF positions in Judea and Samaria (West Bank).
Thursday morning two security guards were seriously wounded in the Barkan industrial zone near Ariel in Samaria when a Palestinian Arab stabbed them. The assailant, 23-year-old Mouhamed Zaharn from the village of Adick was shot dead. He had a permit to work in the industrial zone and had just returned from a trip to Saudi Arabia
An hour later, a Palestinian Arab terrorist tried to stab Israeli soldiers with a screwdriver at an army checkpoint near Hebron. The soldiers shot and killed the attacker. None of the soldiers sustained injuries.
A short time later, a Palestinian driver attempted to run over a group of IDF soldiers at the entrance of the Rama Army Base in Geva Benyamin close to Jerusalem. The terrorist was shot and killed by IDF forces, and one of the soldiers suffered light injuries.
Later on Thursday afternoon, two Israelis were injured in a rock-throwing attack near Adam junction in Samaria.
A short time later, extremely violent clashes broke out in the area of the Qalandiyah refugee camp. One of the Palestinian rioters opened fire at IDF soldiers who returned fire killing the assailant. A second Palestinian was also shot dead, and two IDF soldiers were injured during the clashes that erupted following the string of attacks today and yesterday.
Since the start of the terror war three months ago, 24 Israelis have been murdered, and 266 were injured in stabbing, shooting and vehicular attacks by Palestinian Arab terrorists. Israeli security forces killed 129 Palestinian Arabs, half of them were the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks. The remainder was killed during violent confrontations with Israeli security forces.
