Has the RNC gotten the message?

In an effort to blunt a revolt by GOP presidential campaigns over debates, the Republican National Committee on Sunday evening named a new official to work with the campaigns and networks. The RNC, on the defensive amid complaints from the campaigns, is hoping to resolve objections that flared after last week's testy debate on CNBC.

Half an hour before a meeting by most of the campaigns to discuss changes to future debates, RNC Chief of Staff Katie Walsh emailed the campaign managers for the 14 GOP candidates: "I have asked Sean Cairncross, Chief Operating Officer of the RNC and former Chief Counsel to take the central role in the debate process, specifically as it pertains to working with Sean Spicer and negotiating with the networks."

Spicer, the party's chief strategist and communications director, has been the party's point person in debate negotiations.
