Paul Ryan prints victory party invitations, pre–vote
Capitol Hill lawmakers haven’t even cast their ballots for speaker, but Rep. Paul Ryan and his friends aren’t waiting on formalities – they’ve already printed up the party invitations for an event aimed at celebrating the Wisconsin lawmaker’s leadership win.
As Breitbart reported, the invitations read: “The pleasure of your company is requested at a Reception Honoring the 54th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives: The Honorable Paul D. Ryan. … Invitation is for Members & Spouses Only. Please RSVP by noon on October 29th.”
Breitbart obtained a copy of the invitation which was also sent to all the House Republican schedulers.
The party’s set for the Library of Congress at the Jefferson Building. The vote for speaker, meanwhile, is set for Wednesday.
And not all those who’ve seen the invitations are cheering the would-be speaker’s show of confidence.
“Just what we need,” said one senior House aide to the Republicans, to Breitbart, “another arrogant politician in charge.”
Most political watchers think Ryan secured his win – despite an ongoing challenge for the post from Rep. Daniel Webster – when the Freedom Caucus gave its collective nod to him. The 40-member Freedom Caucus had initially given its endorsement to Webster in early October.
