Chris Christie on refugees: U.S. should shut door
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who’s been struggling to gain steam in his run for the White House, said the United States ought to forget about taking in refugees fleeing Syrian and Middle East conflict, but rather pay other countries to open their own border doors to them.
“It’s a real danger to take in any of these folks and that’s why I’ve been advocating for the idea that what we need to do is to incentivize our allies [in] the world, especially in the Middle East, for them to take these folks in,” Christie said, during an interview on Fox News with host Sean Hannity.
He also said America’s best bet for dealing with the Syrian crisis is to establish and uphold a safe zone, Breitbart reported.
“That’s why [I] advocated from the beginning that we need to put a no-fly zone into effect in those areas, and protect those areas from [Syrian President Bashar] Assad and from the Russians,” he said.
Christie also slammed President Obama for the current tensions rippling through the Mideast, saying he “created” the problems because of weak foreign policy. But, he suggested, this is what smart voters should have known Obama would bring – he campaigned on a total “pro-Palestinian” mantra.
“This president made it clear in his campaign in 2008 that he’s going to be a pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel president,” Christie said, Breitbart reported.
