Jewish leader: Iran will reach 'nuclear threshold' in ten years

A major Jewish leader is predicting President Obama’s diplomatic agreement with Iran will make Tehran a nuclear power in a decade.

Malcolm Hoenlein on Sunday said the economic sanctions relief Iran receives from the deal will help it build an atomic weapons arsenal by 2025.

“The fact is that Iran in ten years will be a nuclear threshold state,” Hoenlein told host John Catsimatidis on “The Cats Roundtable” on AM 970 in New York.

“That’s the bottom line of this deal,” said Hoenlein, the executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.

The Obama administration announced July 14 that it had reached a lasting pact with Iran over its nuclear arms research.

Hoenlein on Sunday argued Obama is distorting the debate over the accord’s details and their global implications.

“I think that the president’s efforts to portray this as either you support the deal or you’re for war – that’s a false premise,” he said.

“People can be for a better deal,” he said. “Future generations may well hold us to account for this accord.”

“There is nothing here that addresses Iran being the leading state-sponsor of terrorism,” Hoenlein added.

“We’re going to release these tens of billions of dollars that will allow them to undermine all these regimes in the region.”

The U.S. and its allies negotiated last week’s historic agreement with Iran over 20 months of tense negotiations.

Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia aided American efforts at the bargaining table with Iranian diplomats.

The pact provides Iran with economic sanctions relief in exchange for greater restrictions on its nuclear energy capabilities.

Congress is now within a 60-day window to review the deal’s final details.
