Do you want lies with that?

McDonald's has seen a global sales slide of late and shareholders are restless, so maybe the new CEO is hoping that bringing on the former apologist for a U.S. president who helped tack on trillions in debt and First Lady who advises people to avoid fast food will calm investor nerves:

McDonald's has hired former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs as its public relations chief, the company announced Tuesday.

The company has also appointed Silvia Lagnado, former chief marketing officer of Bacardi, as its new chief marketing officer.

Both will report to McDonald's CEO Steve Easterbrook.

"Robert and Silvia are both highly-respected, talented leaders who will bring a wealth of experience and outside perspective to McDonald's as we build a more modern, progressive burger company," Easterbrook said in a release. "Returning excitement to our business proposition and brand is foundational to our turnaround plan, and Robert and Silvia -- with their respective teams -- will play critical roles in bringing this strategy to life."

Saying it's a move to "build a more modern, progressive burger company" sounds better than "we needed a guy to preempt criticism from certain 'raise the wage' and 'paid leave'-promoting progressive presidential candidates before it happens." Hillary, check your mailbox -- there might be a little something for the Clinton Foundation in there.

Or maybe Gibbs' role is much more straightforward:
