The Obama administration's long-awaited climate rule for existing power plants will require as much as a 30 percent cut in the industry's greenhouse gas pollution by 2030, The Associated Press is reporting.
The proposed rule will provide ample ammunition for Republicans in the November elections, fueling their charges that President Barack Obama is waging a job-destroying "war on coal." Legal challenges from some states and industry groups are considered inevitable, although EPA has won a string of recent court victories that have boosted the agency's confidence in its legal strategy.
