Kathleen Sebelius Leaves the White House Laughing

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said goodbye to the White House on Friday, smiling and laughing during the press conference announcing her departure.

President Obama praised Sebelius for her tireless efforts to promote Obamacare and “turning the corner” when the healthcare.govwebsite failed.

“Of course, what Kathleen will go down in history for is serving as the secretary of Health and Human Services when the United States of America finally declared that quality affordable health care is not a privilege but it is a right for every single citizen of these United States of America.” 

Administration staffers gave Sebelius a standing ovation as she took took the podium with Obama during a Rose Garden ceremony at the White House.

Obama thanked Sebelius for her service and said that she had earned the right to leave, although he would miss her her advice, friendship, and wit.”

“She’s got bumps, I’ve got bumps, bruises, but we did it…” Obama explained. 

Sebelius thanked Obama for the historic opportunity to serve in his administration during the fight for Obamacare.

“I got to be a leader of HHS during these most historic times. We are on the front lines of a long overdue national change, fixing a broken health system,” she said calling it the “cause of her life.”
