2016: Rand, Jindal, Santorum to Headline Iowa State GOP Convention

2016: Rand, Jindal, Santorum to Headline Iowa State GOP Convention

on Mon, 7 Apr 2014

Three potential 2016 GOP presidential candidates--Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, and former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA)--will headline the Iowa GOP convention on June 14.

The Des Moines Register reported that Jindal will also "headline a Republican Party of Iowa's fundraiser the night before" while "Paul and Santorum will likely to do some other GOP activities in Iowa" before speaking to activists that make up the backbone of the conservative movement in the state that can be crucial to a candidate's potential ground game and organization, especially if the caucuses are held during inclement weather.

Santorum won the 2012 Iowa caucuses while Paul, if he enters the 2016 race, will hope to get enough Evangelical voters to join those in the liberty movement who were attracted to his father's economic message. Jindal, if he decides to run, will hope to use Iowa as a springboard for his candidacy by outperforming expectations.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who won the 2008 caucuses, and 2012 Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan, another potential 2016 candidate, will travel to Iowa this week.
