Judicial Watch Prez: Outside Groups Shouldn't Have to Do Boehner's Job on Benghazi

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton told Breitbart News on Monday that his group, a government accountability and watchdog organization, is having to fill in the gaps of the congressional investigations into Benghazi.

House Speaker John Boehner’s disjointed five committee process, he argued, is not getting the job done on Benghazi. Fitton is one of the leaders who signed a letter on Monday, along with three family members of victims in Benghazi, demanding that Boehner stop blocking the will of the majority of the House GOP conference and install a select committee to investigate the terrorist attack and ensuing scandal.

“Haphazard investigation by disinterested committees is allowing the Obama administration to escape accountability,” Fitton said in an email to Breitbart News. “If Speaker Boehner was seriously interested in Benghazi, he would have appointed a select committee six months ago. The current process is serving to bury scandal. Why is it being left to Judicial Watch to uncover Benghazi information?”

Fitton’s group is a powerful investigative organization, but in matters of national security and terrorism, he wonders why Judicial Watch is in many instances more effective than various House committees with subpoena power.

For instance, it was thanks to Judicial Watch that the American people were able to see the first official photographs of the attack and its aftermath. Judicial Watch also uncoveredsecurity contractor Blue Mountain Group emails showing the State Department urged officials to avoid the media in the aftermath of the Benghazi attack.

Fitton, like the others who signed the letter to Boehner, believes the House should stop its disjointed and ineffective investigations by creating a select committee once and for all.

“To date, five (5) different committees of the House have conducted separate hearings, uncovering information in a piecemeal fashion lacking professional investigators,” the coalition wrote to Boehner. “The five committees’ efforts are disjointed and uncoordinated. The Obama administration has benefited from that dysfunctional process to hide the truth.”

“Hardly any Obama administration witnesses have testified – publicly or privately,” they continued. “You have resisted repeated calls for the creation of a select investigative committee with subpoena authority. It appears that you are satisfied to allow that state of investigative incoherence and ambiguity to continue."
