Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) on Sunday said it was time for an ObamaCare “timeout” after the problems with the rollout of President Obama’s healthcare reform law.
Ayotte said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Obama should delay the implementation of his health law and go back to the drawing board for a better solution.
“I was one of the Republicans who called out members of my own party on the shutdown strategy to defend ObamaCare, because I didn’t think it was effective and I didn’t think it was good for the country,” Ayotte said.
“I’m calling on the president now to say 'let’s have a timeout on this.' "
"Mr. president, you call a timeout on this, and convene a group of bipartisan leaders to address health concerns in this country, because this is not working,” she added.
The White House has faced a flurry of negative headlines as it has rolled out the health law, from the problems with the healthcare.gov website to the cancellations of individual health plans.
Democrats and Obama have defended ObamaCare amid the problems, although the issues have raised concerns from congressional Democrats heading into 2014.
Asked to respond to criticisms that Republicans aren’t interested in trying to fix the health law, Ayotte said the problems her constituents were raising were out of her control.
“My constituents are writing me, but how can I help them when it’s a situation of their getting cancellation notices because of the way that ObamaCare is drafted, when they can’t access the website because its such a mess,” Ayotte said.-03-13 09:34 AM ESTSen.
