Howard Dean: A 'Good Thing' Businesses Will 'Dump' Employees into Obamacare Exchanges

on Tue, 1 Oct 2013

On Sunday, former Vermont Governor Howard Dean said it would be a "good thing" that small businesses will ultimately decide to dump their employees into the Obamacare healthcare exchanges.

"Small businesses are going to dump their employees into the exchange. I think that's a good thing," Dean, a Democrat and former presidential candidate in 2004, said on CNN'sState of the Union on Sunday. "To separate employment from health insurance, that's something conservatives have wanted to do for a long time until recently, and I think that's going to happen as a result of this bill."

The Obamacare exchanges officially opened on Tuesday with many glitches. Businesses, like Sea World, are cutting hours to avoid the employer mandate provision of Obamacare that will go into effect next year while others, like UPS, are eliminating insurance plans they had once offered to employees and their spouses.
