Conservatives Challenge McConnell to Defund Obamacare: 'If You Fund It, You Own It'

A conservative group released an ad on Wednesday comparing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to a chicken and challenging him to support the effort to defund Obamacare. The ad proclaims that McConnell will own Obamacare if he votes to fund it. 

ForAmerica, a non-profit conservative group led by Brent Bozell, released an ad titled, "Who Are the Biggest Chickens in Washington?"

The ad implies that McConnell is one, as it says, “In American slang, the chicken represents a coward."

“The chicken is also representative of a new breed of Republicans in Washington,” the ad then says. “They tend to say one thing: ‘Obamacare should be repealed, root and branch.’ – Sen. Mich McConnell.  But when confronted with an opportunity to act, they often run, far away, without a sense of direction.”

The ad then says on Obamacare, McConnell has said, "This law is a disaster. And I want you to know we’re not backing down from this fight.’ But when he has the chance to defund Obamacare, some say he’s chickening out."

“Senator McConnell, conservatives don’t need a chicken when it comes to Obamacare," the ad concludes. "Leaders lead. But if you fund it, you own it!”

While Senators like Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Mike Lee (R-UT) are leading an effort in the Senate to defund Obamacare by supporting a continuing resolution that will fund the government except for Obamacare, McConnell has largely remained silent, even though he has vowed to repeal Obamacare in the past.
