McCain Agrees with Obama that 'Stand Your Ground' Should Be Reviewed

on Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Appearing on CNN's State of the Union on July 21, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) sided with President Obama and said stand your ground laws ought to be reviewed not only in Florida, but in every state that has passed such laws.

Stand your ground laws have been a flash-point for protesters and gun control advocates since George Zimmerman was declared "not guilty" on July 13. However, Florida's stand your ground law played no role in Zimmerman's acquittal--his legal team did not invoke the law in his defense.

McCain described stand your ground laws as "controversial" and said he expects his home state of Arizona to reexamine their version of the law too.

He told CNN's Candy Crowley he is "confident the members of the Arizona legislature" will do just that.
